Quote of the day

No chemist would make the mistake of confusing the question of what gold is (an element with a certain atomic number) with the question of how you know you have it (a positive response to certain physico-chemical tests). Presumably it is the fact that truth is less concrete than gold which has caused some philosophers to make a similar mistake.
